His mind was running constantly. Even though Ackley’s body was extremely exhausted because he had been in motion for almost non-stop the past few days, his mind just wasn’t going to let him rest. Ackley would be laying there, in completely darkness in his tent, then suddenly sit straight up, strike a match to his lantern and go digging through his backpack for a set of notes. He couldn’t get up and go out for a walk; his body was demanding him to just stay in his tent, but his mind just kept him awake. Even if he forced himself to lie down and shut his eyes, his mind just would have none of that resting nonsense. Of course, as he struggled to get himself to sleep before he had to actually get up, was not working out for him. But as soon as he decided to give in and just sit up all night, waiting for the time he would have to get ready instead of fighting this stupid battle with his head, he fell right to sleep.
Suddenly, Ackley was up, his tired eyes completely wide open. Why was he asleep? Why the Granger sisters and Thane weren’t there worried him. He should’ve been gone before the sun was even up. But instead it was there, heating up his tent. Ackley felt around for his glasses, unable to see from his usual blurriness, with the fact he was tired and there was sweat dripping into his eyes added on top. Finally his fingertips found them, and he set the round framed glasses upon his nose, and pushed the ends of the arms behind his ears. This particular red shirt did not even pass the smell test. It was dirty visually, and he had been sweating in it all night, and the thick layer of sweat all over him made him uncomfortable. Digging around his suit case just for a short while before he tugged out a deep green coloured t-shirt; it was of a much thinner material then the current shirt he was wearing.
Just as he was in mid t-shirt changing motion, he paused. Big heavy boots stomped up towards his tent, and he knew exactly whose feet were inside those boots. But as he continued flipping the t-shirt over him, parts of him got stuck because it was so hot. His glasses flung from his face, he knocked over his lantern, and jammed his hand into one of the metal support rods. He had to reach down into his shirt to get the glasses back, just wiping them off on his jeans and carried on. That was all he planned to wear today. He had on that green shirt and a pair of burgundy coloured pants. He didn’t care what he looked like; Ackley was more of into the questions “it doesn’t smell bad? It’s comfortable? It fits?” He never asked “It matches?”
“ACKLEY” There was that familiar growl of Thane. He knew that Thane was the one that approached his tent, but he had waited until the man brought attention to himself rather then go up to him first. His voice was louder then usual, and Ackley was getting some bad vibes from him, even while sitting inside the tent. Not wasting time on his appearance anymore (like he wasted more then maybe five minutes on it anyways), he pushed his book bag from in front of the tent’s flap, and peeked his head out. The man had his arms crossed over his large chest, peering down at Ackley, and his face twisted into the angriest look ever.
Ackley just crawled out of his tent, stood up, wiped some dirt from his knees, and smiled to him. Thane didn’t get any kind of happy vibes from Ackley, and just angrier from that smile. “ Goddamnit Ackley. Don’t you get all fuckin’ cheery on me! I’ve been lookin’ over all the goddamn place for your tent, and look” Thane got to the point where his anger interfered with his words, and he ended up just shoving a piece of paper into Ackley’s face. All Ackley could do was sigh, and shake his head. “Well? Thane, really, I know you can’t help it, but there’s nothing we can do. They’ll be back soon.” He removed his glasses for a brief moment and wiped them clean on the non sweat soaked t-shirt. Thane only had grunts and more angry spouted words in response for Ackley’s laid back approach to this situation.
“Look. There’s a celebration going on today!” He started walking from his tent, Thane able to keep up to his long legged bouncy pace quite easily, even though the man wasn’t very tall. His friend made up in muscle and strength what he didn’t have in height. “Listen here, brother, they’re excited about the day this camp broke free from the Power’s grip, and you oughtta just relax and join us all down at the beach. I’m glad I got sleep in; those girls did me a favour, even if they don’t know it.”
It was not hard to tell he was annoyed, his face showed it, but he didn’t say anything to show it. Thane grumbled on about how they’d regret it once they got back from the mission. Ackley just looked over at Thane through his glasses and nodded from time to time. All around, people were more upbeat and casual in their demeanor, getting ready for the celebrations.
