Adriel used to be in his father's favours when he was a boy. When he was putty in his parents hands, and when he used to believe in everything they told him. That had changed over the last few years, as he'd grown and talked to more people and had taken up reading any literature he could get his hands on. He'd read many a thing his parents had not wanted him to read, and he'd learned many things that had been hidden from him as he grew.
He'd read about the Old World, the wars and the coming of the New World. He'd read about the slaughter of anyone who opposed the Iron Hand ruling of the new power that forced its way into the seats of control. Now they were the Powers, living behind white walls to stop the attacks of those who opposed this type of Parliamentary ruling. Adriel knew why Aelton had such large walls, it was because the Powers feared the attacks of the Rebellion groups. It was fear the drove the leaders to kill off the Rebels, because they were terrified that those with the ideas for everyone to live in peace together ruins their plans to dominate the globe.
The hold his parents had on his actions and thoughts slowly slipped, and Adriel started to stand up to his parents. He refused to go to anything to do with wars or planning, and refused to listen to his father's excuses about the Rebels and why they were 'so bad'. So now he spent a lot of time alone, and would help research things to help improve the city. Maybe his knowledge could help others at a later date, people in other cities and settlements. It wasn't right or fair to keep all these wonderful discoveries and technologies just for the people of Aelton when there was a whole world out there, filled with people who would all benefit from it.
With a soft exhalation of breath, Adriel ran a hand through his hair as he set down the book he'd been reading and glanced out the window. The view was breathtaking, but he was bored of it. He wanted to go away for a while, take a break from the stark white of Aelton and see the real world. Experience the dirt and grime, the things he couldn't experience in this place. Maybe he should pack up, take Azra'il and leave for a while. See what the world was like further than Springlake and the forests around Aelton. He sat there for a while, deep in thought, ignoring the sounds of the growing city outside his window.
